Using the dashboard

Every screen answers a specific question, and almost everything on screen is clickable - clicking a page, source, country or device filters the entire dashboard, and the filter state lives in the URL so any view can be bookmarked or shared with your team.

Metrics explained

MetricDefinition
VisitorsUnique anonymous visitor ids active in the period
SessionsVisits; a session ends after 30 min of inactivity (configurable)
PageviewsPage loads + SPA route changes
Engaged sessionsActive ≥ 10s (real attention - visible tab, focused, interacting) OR 2+ pageviews OR a conversion. Threshold configurable.
Bounce rateSessions with 1 pageview, no conversion, under the engagement threshold. A background tab never counts as engagement.
Avg. active timeActual attention time - not wall-clock time with the tab open
ConversionsSessions that hit any goal (Settings → Goals)
Every Overview card shows the current value, the previous period, the % change, and a trend. The comparison period is always the same length immediately before your selected range. Known bots are excluded from every report (see them under Technology → Bots).

Which clock? Today, Yesterday, This month and custom dates are cut in the site's reporting timezone, and the charts bucket their days the same way. New sites report in UTC; the zone in force is shown under the site name in the sidebar and can be changed in Settings → General. Rolling ranges (last 7, 30, 90 days) are measured back from right now, so they read the same in any zone.

Filters & cohorts

Click any row anywhere to add it as a filter - active filters show as removable chips under the page title. Combine them freely: mobile · from ChatGPT · in Germany. Since filters are URL parameters, dashboards are linkable.

Cohorts (Users → Cohorts) are saved filter sets, including behavioral conditions like "visited /pricing but did NOT do signup_completed" or "3+ sessions". Save one, then apply it to any screen with one click.

Funnels, paths & retention

Funnels

Journeys → Funnels. Define 2-8 steps, each a page (/pricing) or an event (signup_started). Ordered mode allows unrelated activity between steps; strict requires direct progression. Each step shows sessions reached, conversion vs step 1, drop-off vs the previous step, and median time to the next step - the drop-off numbers tell you exactly which step to fix.

Paths

Journeys → Paths answers "what did people do after X?" (forward) and "what led to X?" (reverse). The anchor can be a page or an event - try reverse from your conversion event to see the routes that actually convert.

Retention

Users → Retention groups visitors by first-seen date and shows the share returning on day 1/2/3/7/14/30 (or weekly/monthly). The lifecycle strip above it counts new, returning, resurrected and inactive visitors.

Sessions, replay & frustration

Sessions is the explorer: filter to has replay, has error, rage clicks, converted… and open any session for its full timeline - pageviews, scrolls, clicks, errors, vitals, custom events, second by second. If a replay exists, press Play session; clicking a timeline entry jumps the recording to that exact moment. This is the fastest path from "conversion dropped" to "I watched the button not work".

Replay is off by default. Enable it in Settings → Tracking and pick a sampling rate (10% is a good default) - plus rules to always record sessions with errors or rage clicks, which are the ones you actually want to watch. Behavior → Frustration aggregates rage clicks, dead clicks and quickbacks by element and page; Behavior → Heatmaps shows click density, pointer movement and per-page scroll reach.

Insights & “Why did this change?”

The Insights page runs a deterministic statistical engine over your data (no AI, no made-up narratives): it flags traffic spikes/drops, conversion and bounce changes, error and rage-click spikes, and per-page LCP regressions - each card carries its numbers and the segments that drove it.

Why did this change? - pick a metric (sessions, conversions, bounces, errors, engagement) and the engine compares your selected range to the previous period across every dimension (device, browser, source, campaign, landing page, country, new/returning), ranking each segment by the share of the change it explains:

"Conversions: 262 → 189 (−28%). Mobile Safari explains 61% of the change - its conversion rate fell from 8.1% to 2.9%. Sessions with JS errors on /signup rose 3.2×." → open Sessions filtered to mobile Safari + has error, watch a replay, find the bug.

Alerts (Settings → Goals & Alerts) watch for traffic drops, conversion drops, error rates, slow LCP, total silence, or any count going above a value you set (conversions above 0 means "tell me when anyone converts"), and post notifications to the Insights page. Need raw data? The acquisition, content and events tables export CSV, and the Behavior → Events explorer breaks any custom event down by any property with zero schema setup.
